Information to players/parents new to Babe RuthUpdatedFriday February 28, 2020 byMichael Rutherford.
Greater Portland Babe Ruth is a league for players who have aged out of Little League (12 or 13) and up to 15 (16 year olds are allowed under certain conditions). Portland players will have a tryout and then there will be a draft. Last year the league had 5 Portland teams. The league does not cut, so if we have to add a team the league will. Registrations will be open March 1st. Tryouts will be in mid April. Season begins June 1st and will end in mid July. Playoffs will go till end of July. Games are during the week. (usually on Monday, Weds, and Fridays) . Weekends are only used for make-up games. The league does not interfere with AAU baseball. The league consists of 5-6 Portland teams, 2 South Portland teams, 2 Scarborough teams, 1 or 2 Falmouth teams, 1 Cape team, and 2 Gorham teams. 15 regular season games will be scheduled. The league puts in an All Star team in 3 age divisions. 13, 14, and a 15 year old team. Last year all three teams won the States and advanced to the final four of the New England Regionals. If a team does win the Regionals they would advance to the Babe Ruth World Series. For Portland players, your registration fee will include a game shirt, hat, belt and game socks. *players will supply their own grey pants! **must be grey!
*This year residents of Windham and Westbrook must sign up and pay the Portland registration. The two towns are not putting in a team, so players who live in these towns will sign up and tryout for one of the Porland teams. They will be eligible for the All Star teams.
