MPD gets first win, Gribbs continues to roll!Updated Tuesday June 11, 2019 by Michael Rutherford.
After losing their second straight game Sunday, the Miss Portland Diner coaching staff has a 3 hour practice that was closed to the media. Whatever Coach Sinclair and Coach O'Donnell said, it looked like it worked. MPD looked like a different team last night, beating up Yankee Ford 7-4. MPD is now 1-2, while Yankee Ford dropped to 0-2. Coach O'Donnell said, "our boys played hard, and this team is not giving up on winning the Portland championship...we are gunning for Winship and the Gribbs boys!"
Gribbs, who are now looking like the 1927 Yankees, rolled to their 3rd stright win, pounding Bangor Savings Bank of Scarborough 14-4. Colby Winship picked up the win and Brady Coyne had a double and a triple. Gribbs four 13 year olds (Kimball, Rosmus, Theriault, Soutuyo) chipped in with 6 hits!
Easy Day split thier double header. Easy Day won the first one 2 to 1 over defending champs Ri Ra's. This was Ri Ra's first loss in two years! Coach Poole had them all in the cage after, taking extra BP, vowing not to lose again! Easy Day was shut out in the second game by Falmouth, 6-0. Falmouth coach Dan Smith said his kids were nervous in their loss to Gribbs but today's result is going to be the norm the rest of the season.
The Scarborough Benchwarmers opened up their season in impressive fashion with a 5-1 win over Salvage BBQ. Sam Clark had a double and 2 RBIs, Will Fallona chipped in with 2 RBIs. Harrison Griffiths, Ben Seguin, Clark, and Max Cook combined on a four hitter. 13 year old, Liam Fay-Leblanc, was impressive for Salvage in defeat. He gave up 4 runs in the first and then settled down with 4 no hit innings!
