Gribbs wins City Championship!

UpdatedWednesday August 8, 2018 byMichael Rutherford.

Gribbs (formally known as Moodys) defeated Salvage BBQ Monday night 5-0 to win the Portland Babe Ruth City Championship!  Ben Wilson, a 15-year-old, threw a complete game 3 hit shutout.  Gribbs finished 12-3 while Salvage finished 12-6.  Gribbs coach, Kevin Winship, credited himself for the victory....."Wilson was great, but he is a Falmouth player who obviously learned to pitch from me" Winship said after the game, "I said early in the year when we lost a couple of games, that if my team starts to listen to me, we will win every game...and late in the year they started to.  It is obvious that I am the best coach in this league...I am a two time Western Maine Class A Champion coach and I also have a Class B State Championship under my leadership.  To be blunt, look at my record vs the 'so-called" coaching legends in High School baseball...I am 3-0 against the legend Mike D'Andrea, I humiliated the South Portland coach this year, knocking off his #1 team and pounded the MVP of the league...I am 2-2 vs the Portland coach, but should be 4-0 if my players just made the routine plays....just call me the 'Giant Killer'....put me up against the Giants of coaching and I win almost every time!"

Some would say Winship's comments verge on "cocky", but he does back it up.  The Gribbs players love him and he seems to win every big game he coaches in.

Congratulation again to the Gribbs team and Coach Winship!   2018 CITY CHAMPIONS!!!
